You get the references, of course: to 1 Corinthians 13, St. Paul’s famous passage about charity, and to the Declaration of Independence. In the latter, those famous words go as follows: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
I see in Obama’s rendition equality, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Just one item missing from the original, a notable omission for some of us who still care about such things.
